At Robins’ Nest, we observe World Mental Health Day each year in hopes of raising awareness about mental health issues, advocating against its social stigma, and educating the community at large about mental health care. Below are four ideas on ways to improve your mental health:
Take care of your body.
As its name states, mental health focuses on the mind, but taking care of yourself physically plays a huge role in your overall mindset and wellbeing. Stay active regularly, eat balanced meals, and make sleep a priority.
There is only one you, and no matter how much you may compare yourself to someone else, it’s important to recognize your own worth. Speak to yourself with kindness and respect rather than focusing on self-doubt and criticism.
Seek help when needed.
Everyone wants to feel like a superhero, but remember that it’s okay to ask for help when you need it. Develop a positive support system of friends and family that you know will always help you out during a tough time.
Take a break.
Between our busy professional and personal lives, it can be really difficult to find time for yourself in your daily schedule. Make it a priority to set aside 15-30 minutes a day to focus on yourself and relax. For many, putting away your cell phone, sitting down with a good book, or meditating can clear the mind and leave you feeling refreshed.
